ProShaper
Diamond Disc Grinder
User Guide

The Inland ProShaper™ you bought straight edge grinds, bevels the edge of glass, rapidly thins the edge of thicker glasses and grinds with amazing speed using the outer edge of the disc. The mini-work surface lets you router grind while set up to disc grind. Although you probably bought this item for use with glass, you can also use it with plastic, ceramics, ceramic tile, marble, and stone.

Safety

Setting up your ProShaperexploded

Setup your ProShaper™ as shown in the diagram at right.

  1. Attach one end of the clear plastic drain tube (R) onto the drain stem found on the underside of the disc wheel reservoir (K). Place the other end in a tray to collect coolant after you complete setup.
  2. Place the disc wheel reservoir onto the grinder body (A) and lock into place using the two lock down pins (C). Put the white caps in place over the lock down pins.
  3. Install the disc (L) onto the motor shaft. The 5" disc is diamond coated on the upper surface and around the entire outer edge. You can use both surfaces for grinding.
  4. Put the disc cover (N) in place over the disc.
  5. coolantCoolant Reservoir Setup: See below. Insert the white wire reservoir holder (U) into the two mounting brackets molded into the back of the grinder body (A). Mount the coolant reservoir (S) onto the wire bracket with the coolant flow adjustment screw (T) facing the front of the ProShaper™. 'Plug' the coolant hose into the hole provided in the white plastic disc cover (N) making sure it doesn't rub on the disc.

Outer Edge Grindingouter

You can use the outer edge to grind and shape glass in the same way you would use a standard grinding bit. Grinding on the outer edge of the disc allows you to remove glass extremely fast. When grinding on the outer edge of the disc:

  1. Raise the disc a minimum of 1/8" above the work surface.
  2. Place a single wet sponge into the right coolant reservoir so that the sponge just touches the disc. If the sponge is dry or wedged against the disc, it will not turn properly.
  3. Fill the right coolant reservoir to a maximum depth of 1/8" and replace the disc cover. NOTE: Overfilling will produce excessive over spray!
  4. Insert the metal dowel pin into the hole located in the work surface near the left hand edge of the disc. Place the dampened wiper sponge securely on the pin so that it just touches the disc edge.
  5. Remember to let the disc spin freely letting the diamond do the work. Do not push so hard that you stall the disc.
Disc Grinding

Using the upper surface of the disc, you will be able to quickly straight edge grind, thin, miter, angle, or bevel a piece of glass. When disc grinding make sure that:

  1. If you have been outer edge grinding, remove the coolant feed sponge from the right reservoir, the wiper sponge and pin. Remove any coolant in the reservoir and under the grinding disc. This will help prevent excessive over-spray when disc grinding.
  2. Position the diamond disc so the top is just level with the work surface.
  3. Replace the disc cover and insert the coolant feed hose from the reservoir into the hole (Refer to coolant setup at bottom of page 2)
  4. Adjust the coolant drip rate to provide a slow, steady drip of coolant onto the disc.
  5. Use light, steady pressure to push the glass into the disc surface. For longer pieces use a back and forth motion across the disc. Do not push the glass so hard that you stall the disc. If white paste forms while grinding, increase the coolant drip rate or check the coolant level.
Using the MitreMaker and CAB BarsMitreMaker

The MitreMaker™ kit consists of two angle grinding bars:

grindingThe MitreMaker™ bars snap into the disc work surface. To grind a miter edge, select the appropriate MitreMaker™ angle bar and side. For example: If you are making a four sided box, you would grind your edges on the 450 bar. Place the long sponge under the bar. It helps catch any excess coolant pushed up by the rotating disc. Snap the bar into the work surface with the desired angle toward the disc. Place the glass against the bar and slowly grind the angle into the glass. For longer pieces use a back and forth motion across the disc. Remember to let the diamond do the work!

Page 2

grindingThe CABs are for grinding compound angles. They attach to the MitreMaker™ bar with the thumb screw. The bottom pin pops into the CAB pin hole on the MitreMaker™ and acts as a pivot point. On top of the MitreMaker™ bars are angle setting guides for the CAB to create angles from 00 to 450 in 50 increments. To grind a compound angle, attach the CAB to the MitreMaker™ and set to the required angle. For example: To grind a flat 8 sided border use the 900 MitreMaker™ and set the CAB at 22.50. Hold the glass against the MitreMaker™ bar and the CAB at the same time as you feed it into the disc. compound

Using the Mini-Work Surface over the Discusing

When disc grinding on your ProShaper™, you can still use a 1" grinder head. Install the 1" bit onto the shaft above the disc and place the mini-work surface over the disc. Place the split sponge behind the bit so half touches the bit and the other half sits in the coolant reservoir. The mini-work surface sets in place when you need it and lifts away when you want to disc grind.
