DIAMOND GRINDING HEADS
User Instructions

Inland is the only grinder manufacturer that makes diamond grinder heads, blades and wheels. Because each head is 100% microscopically inspected, we guarantee your absolute satisfaction. Inland grinding heads fit all machines with a standard motor shaft.

Safety

  1. Always wear proper eye protection when grinding or drilling.
  2. Gloves are recommended for hole drilling.
Installation
  1. It is always a good idea to apply a lubricant such as Inland Motor Shaft Lubricant to the motor shaft whenever installing or changing bits. This helps prevent the bit from seizing on the shaft and keeps ground glass and debris from getting down into the motor.
  2. Loosen the set screw using the allen wrench provided.
  3. Place the bit onto the shaft so that the set screw sits over the flat side of the motor shaft and about 1/8" of the diamond is exposed above the work surface.
  4. Secure the bit to the shaft by tightening the set screw.
  5. When the exposed diamond no longer grinds efficiently, loosen the set screw and move the bit up on the motor shaft to expose a fresh section of diamond.
Drilling Holesdrilling holes in glass

You can use the smaller grinding / drilling bits, like WB-8 or the drilling heads for grinding intricate details and tight curves as well as drilling holes. These bits are generally installed on top of the larger 3/4" and 1" bits.

  1. Install the bit onto the motor shaft following the instructions above. You may need to lower the bottom bit to expose enough shaft to secure it.
  2. Hold the glass between your thumb and middle finger with a coolant soaked piece of sponge between your forefingers.
  3. Bring the glass down onto the bit at and angle where you want the hole drilled.
  4. As you grind, work the glass around the point of contact with the bit as you raise it to a level position over the bit. Continue working the glass around the bit checking frequently to make sure you have enough coolant in the sponge to keep the bit wet. When you are about to come through the back of the glass, reduce grinding pressure to help prevent excessive chipping as the bit comes through the glass.
  5. You may find easier to drill holes using the Inland SuperJet™ Cooling System.
Helpful Hints
  1. If a white powder forms around the bit as you grind or drill, check the coolant reservoir adding coolant if needed and/or make sure the sponge is properly contacting the reservoir and bit. NEVER GRIND DRY!
  2. Always tighten bits to the flat side of the motor shaft. Tightening to the round side can scar the shaft and prevent the bit from being removed.
  3. Remove grinding heads if you are not using the machine for long periods.
  4. You can use Inland DiamondCoolant™ to help increase grinding efficiency and prolong bit life.
