TwinSpin™ RetroFitKit™
Disc Grinder Conversion for Wizard™, Impulse™, and WizCG™

User Guide

wizard grid needed for adding TwinSpin kitThe TwinSpinRetroFitKit™ is made to fit the Impulse™, WizCG™ and Wizard™ grinders only. On the Wizard, it will allow you to disc grind using the 5" diamond disc. On the Impulse™ and WizCG™ you will be able to disc grind, grind on the disc's outer diameter and use the mini work surface.

You MUST have the updated work surface on your Wizard™ in order to convert it to a disc grinder. If your Wizard™ is over 2 years old you need to purchase the newer surface, Inland Stock #50004. The correct surface has two holes for the T-lock pins as shown here.

Safety

The TwinSpin RetroFitKit Contains the Following Parts:

(1) - White TwinSpin™ disc grinding work surface / reservoir
(2) - White lock down pins (T-locks)
(2) - White caps that cover the lock down pins
(1) - White reservoir cover for the work surface
(1) - White mini-work surface.

Converting Your Wizard™ to a Disc Grindergrinder assembly diagram

You MUST have the updated work surface on your Wizard in order to set it up as a TwinSpin™.

The updated work surface (Stock #50004) has the two holes needed for the lock down pins.

You will setup your Wizard™ as shown in the diagram at right. You must remove all bits currently on the grinder.

  1. You first need to attach one end of the clear plastic drain tube onto the drain stem found on the underside of the disc grinding work surface. The other end is placed in a tray to collect coolant after you complete the setup.
  2. Place the disc grinding work surface over the grid surface and lock into place using the two lock down pins. Put the white caps in place over the lock down pins.
  3. Install the disc onto the motor shaft.
  4. Put the reservoir cover in place over the disc. Insert the coolant drip control into the hole in the reservoir.
Converting Your Impulse or WizCGto a Disc Grinder

You will setup your Impulse™ or WizCG™ as shown in the diagram at right. You must remove all bits currently on the grinder, the white grid surface, the white actuator cap, and the black reservoir tray.

  1. You first need to attach one end of the clear plastic drain tube onto the drain stem found on the underside of the disc grinding work surface. The other end is placed in a tray to collect coolant after you complete the setup.
  2. Place the disc grinding work surface onto the grinder body and lock into place using the two lock down pins. Put the white caps in place over the lock down pins.
  3. Install the disc onto the motor shaft.
  4. Put the reservoir cover in place over the disc. Insert the coolant drip control into the hole in the reservoir.

The 5" disc is diamond coated on the upper surface and around the entire outer edge. Both surfaces can be used for grinding on these machines.

Outer Edge GrindingOuter

You can use the outer edge to grind and shape glass in the same way you would use a standard grinding bit. Grinding on the outer edge of the disc allows you to remove glass extremely fast. When grinding on the outer edge of the disc:

  1. Raise the disc a minimum of 1/8" above the work surface.
  2. Place a single wet sponge into the right coolant reservoir so that the sponge just touches the disc. If the sponge is dry or wedged against the disc, it will not turn properly.
  3. Fill the right coolant reservoir to a maximum depth of 1/8" .Overfilling will produce excessive over spray!
  4. Insert the metal dowel pin into the hole located in the work surface near the left hand edge of the disc. Place the dampened wiper sponge securely on the pin so that it just touches the disc edge.
  5. Remember to let the disc to spin freely and allow the diamond do the work. Do not push the glass so hard that you stall the disc.

Disc Grindingdisc

Using the upper surface of the disc, you will be able to quickly straight edge grind, thin, miter, angle, or bevel a piece of glass. When disc grinding make sure that:

  1. If you have been outer edge grinding, remove the coolant feed sponge from the right reservoir, the wiper sponge and pin. Empty out any coolant in the reservoir and under the grinding disc.
  2. Position the diamond disc so the top is just level with the work surface.
  3. Put on the disc cover and fill the disc coolant reservoir.
  4. Use the adjustable coolant drip control to provide a slow, steady drip of coolant onto the disc.
  5. Use light, steady pressure to push the glass into the disc surface. For longer pieces use a back and forth motion across the disc. Do not push the glass so hard that you stall the disc. If a white paste forms while grinding, increase the coolant drip rate or check the coolant level.
Using the MitreMaker and CAB BarsMitreMaker

The MitreMaker™ kit consists of two angle grinding bars:

grindingThe MitreMaker™ bars snap into the disc work surface. To grind a single miter edge, select the appropriate MitreMaker™ angle bar and side. For example: If you are making a four sided box, you would grind your edges on the 450 bar. When grinding with the MitreMaker™ bars, make sure that a sponge is in place under the bar. When the bar is placed on the work surface the sponge helps catch any excess coolant pushed up by the rotating disc. Snap the bar into the work surface with the desired angle toward the disc. Place the glass against the bar and slowly grind the angle into the glass.

Page 3

compoundThe CABs are for grinding compound angles. They screw into threaded brass inserts that are molded into the MitreMaker™ bars. On top of the MitreMaker™ bars are angle setting guides for the CABs to create angles from 00 to 450 in 50 increments.

To grind a compound angle, select the appropriate MitreMaker™ bar, attach the CAB and set to the desired angle. For example: To grind a flat 8-sided border, use the 900 MitreMaker™ bar with the CAB set at 450. Snap it into the work surface and slowly grind both angles by holding the glass against the MitreMaker™ and CABs at the same time.

Using the Mini-Work Surfaceusing

When disc grinding on your converted Impulse™ or WizCG™, you can still use a 1" grinder head. Install the 1" bit onto the shaft above the disc and place the mini-work surface over the disc. Place the split sponge behind the bit so half touches the bit and the other half sits in the coolant reservoir. The mini-work surface just sets in place when you need it and lifts away when you want to disc grind.

Maintenance

Maintenance to your grinder is minimal but important.
