RIPPLEBIT™
User Instructions

The Inland RippleBit™ is used to thin textured, uneven, and thicker glasses (like ripple glass) to make it easier to fit into lead or metal came. It also makes pieces easier to foil and to produce a smoother bead when soldering.

Safety

Instructions
  1. Apply a thin coating of Inland Motor Shaft Lubricant™ (#50022) to the motor shaft. Our Teflon based lubricant helps prevent the bit from seizing on the shaft and seals out ground glass particles. In a pinch, you can use a bit of Vaseline.
  2. Loosen the set screw on the RippleBit™ by turning it counterclockwise with one of the black allen wrenches. Slide the bit down onto the motor shaft, positioning the set screw over the flat side of the motor shaft. Bits should slide on easily. Do not force! Contact customer service if you have problems.
  3. using a ripple bit Lower the bit down until the groove in the bit is above the work surface. The upper surface of bottom lip should sit just even or slightly below the work surface. Secure in place by turning the set screw clockwise with the allen wrench. IMPORTANT: Always secure the bit to the flat side of the motor shaft. Tightening the bit to the rounded side can scar the shaft and prevent bit removal!
  4. You can test to make sure the bit is in the right position by sliding a regular piece of 1/8" glass across the work surface and into the groove. It should slide easily into the groove's space without running into either the top or bottom lip.
  5. Adjust the coolant feed sponge if needed. You may find that you need to supply additional coolant to the bit. You can do this by holding a second wet sponge against the bit.
  6. Turn on the machine and slowly feed the glass piece into the groove. You can remove as much or as little of the texture as needed. The farther into the groove you work the glass, the wider the edge created. We suggest you match the ground edge width to the foil or came you are using so that it will be covered and create a cleaner, more finished look.

Maintenance

  1. Apply Inland Motor Shaft Lubricant (#50022) to the shaft whenever changing or removing grinding heads. Remove the head if you won’t be using the grinder for more than a week.
  2. Tighten grinding head set screws ONLY to the flat side of the motor shaft to prevent scaring the shaft which makes removing the head nearly impossible. Never force a bit onto the shaft and never pry off a bit. If the bit is stuck, contact Inland Customer service for instructions at 1-800-521-8427, ext. 306
  3. Never use your diamond grinding bits without proper lubrication. Failure to do so will result in premature wearing of the diamond surface.
