SOLDERSTATION
IRON CONTROL / ORGANIZER
User Instructions
Safety
- Always solder in a well ventilated area.
- Never eat, drink or smoke while soldering. Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water before doing anything else.
- Never rest a hot iron directly against work surfaces. Always use an iron stand to safely hold a hot iron away from work surfaces.
- Never leave your soldering iron plugged in and unattended.
Setup
- Install the soldering iron stand by screwing the face of the stand into the hole located behind the brass drip guard. Turn the stand clockwise until snug and facing forward.
- Place the small rectangular tip cleaning sponge into the well located in the center of the brass drip guard. Wet the sponge before use with water.
- Install the flux brush holder by inserting into the slot located behind the flux bottle well. Gently crimp the flux brush 3" from the top with a pair of pliers to keep it in the stand.
- Place the triangular flux sponge into the triangular well and load with flux. This enables you to quickly and cleanly apply flux to foiled glass pieces, rings, wire, etc. prior to tinning or soldering.
Operating Instructions
- The rheostat is the only working part on your SolderStation and contains the same circuitry found in the
MiniPhaser. Plug your soldering iron into the outlet behind the rheostat dial. If your iron does not have a grounding plug, use an adapter.
- Plug in SolderStation cord to a standard 110V grounded outlet.
- When the rheostat dial is turned on, the red LED indicator will light. Turn the rheostat to the desired setting and allow your iron to heat up. If your iron cannot be used with a rheostat you can still use the SolderStation as its power source. Simply turn the dial to its maximum and leave it there.
- Test the heated iron for proper temperature on a practice piece before starting to solder. Adjust temperature if necessary.
- Make sure that your lead came or copper foil is clean before soldering. Oxidized surfaces can be difficult to solder. Came can be cleaned with a medium gauge steel wool or brass brush. Copper foil should be cleaned with a very fine (0000 gauge) steel wool.
- Brush flux onto the came or copper foil.
- Always use a quality stained glass solder with at least 50% tin. Feed the solder into the tip as you hold and move the iron tip along the seam. The rate you feed solder and move the tip along determines the quality, smoothness and appearance of the finished solder seam. Practice your technique before soldering your project.
